Blues/Jazz/rock

notes

Allen Hinds was raised in Alabama and now resides in California.
His eclectic blends of blues/jazz/rock all mesh into a very distinct style of his own. Like a cross between Robben Ford, Alan Holdsworth and Jeff Beck, his music is intelligent, phrasing sophisticated and tone for days.
Jimmy Haslip says "It SMOKES", Will Kennedy says "his songs are not based around notey licks, he's all about strong melodies, great phrasing"
Scott Henderson says "allen always gets a great tone, and great phrasing"
Allen has been teaching at Musician's Institute in Hollywood for 20 years. He has composed songs for Patti Austin, Larry Carlton, Jeff Kashiwa, the CBS t.v. hit J.A.G.
His latest c.d. "Beyond It All" shows more of his southern roots" with songs like "Elegant Decadence" "Redland Road" and features the incredible Randy Crawford on "Worn but not Tattered.
He also has been on tour recently with the great singer and songwriter Gino Vannelli.

  • Beyond it all

If I have to say something negative about this CD, than it only strikes me that the songs are a tad "softer", less grooving and not that rocky, and it does not need constant full attention while listening than "Fact of the Matter" which I think is more challengin'. Oh, and it has less run time, overall a tasteful record - great to jam along with and trying to cop some licks from this great guitarist. Hope next one will be a bit heavier though -

Allen Hinds est absolument fabuleux ! c'est un musicien d'une grande finesse, avec un son extraordinaire ! tout est absolument génial... le son, le phrasé, les idées, les compositions. Il est mon musicien préféré ! Gilles from France

  • Great Stuff!

Allen is one of the best out there right now in guitarland. I have seen him play live and he's the real deal. Tone, phrasing, song writing it's all there. "Beyond It All" captures where he's at. Very, very good follow up to "Fact of the Matter".

  • Awesome batch of tunes....

Very uplifting CD..I just smile every time I play it. The guitar tones are awesome, and the vocals on the 3rd. cut are out of this world. Just a great bluesy, jazzy, rock'in CD...I love it...end of story.

GREAT CD, Allen needs to be heard world-wide. The music is awesome and Allen's playing is SUPERB. Very diverse music but the cd flowes from start to finish.

  • So much Guitar!!
    author: Jan Bertil Pool

From the first note to the last chord this album is drippin' with good taste. Fusing down home blues and slide with sophisticated harmonies; this is Allen at his best. Sometimes he is playing a duet , or maybe a dual, with himself fighting over wich speaker of your stereo gets the best licks. So much guitar!! Just great.

  • Fantastic, better than the first!!

Fantastic new release, more soulfull even thatn the first, if that's possible, great writing and of course, fabulous tone and playing. Allen's a master player, and it shows on this record.

  • Just what I wanted
    author: Vic

I wanted a smooth Jazz CD and that's exactly what I got. Perfect for my commute there and back. By the way, the jewel case was busted when I got it and CD Baby sent me another CD and case free. Thank's CD Baby. That was way beyond what I expected.

  • Guitarists will want to hit their fingers with a hammer...
    author: Brian Rowe

Allen did it again with CD release #2, Beyond It All. If Fact of the Matter left you wanting more, your thirst will absolutely be quenched with this CD. Somehow, Allen brings to the table more tasteful arrangement with these songs than I've heard in ages. Warning to fellow guitarists: Just remember, Allen is a professional and you aren't expected to be able to play like him:) Now I suppose we all have the requisite wait for release number 3!

  • Must have CD
    author: Pierce Hodnette

This CD and Allen's first CD are fabulous. Allen is a creative, funky, soulful guitarist. His CDs stand up to repeated listens and are played often at my house. Allen's tone has always been first rate. This CD is highly recommended to anyone who loves instrumental music and is a must for any guitarist.
